For one night only, Silicon Valley will swap keyboards for vocal cords as techies from the world’s biggest companies bring their voices to the stage at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music for Techapella

The October 19 concert will include ensembles like The Chromeatics, The Vocal Network and Genentonix alongside many others performing in the Conservatory’s largest venue, the Caroline H. Hume Concert Hall. The groups hail from some of the globe's biggest tech companies like Google, Apple, and Meta.

“Techapella is a tribute to music's ability to build community,” said Lindsay Alford, the executive director of Techapella (and member of Googapella). “It's a privilege to host an event that supports the practice of creativity, collaboration, and connection among a diverse set of singers. We're thrilled to showcase this passion—and a little bit of cheesiness—with the Bay Area, and we're grateful to the SFCM for the continued partnership.”

Techapella, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is an annual showcase of a cappella groups performed by members of tech industry titans in Silicon Valley, California. The event aims to advocate for and support music and arts programs within Bay Area corporations and highlight the real people who work at these companies, while allocated proceeds from this concert will go towards SFCM student scholarships.

Since its inaugural show in 2013, the Techapella community has supported more than 30 unique a cappella groups and provided an opportunity for musical collaboration. Groups perform a dynamic range of tunes ranging from the latest pop hits to jazz and choral ballads and throwback classics.

SFCM has a long relationship with Techapella and has hosted the showcase several times, most recently in 2019. This concert follows the appointment of new Voice Executive Chair Richard Cox at SFCM. The Conservatory also announced the expansion of its vocal curriculum in 2024, which openly embraces opera, musical theatre, and multi-genre vocal performance while maintaining the highest standards of professional training, repertoire, and technique.

"Singing a capella requires exceptional vocal control and advanced musicianship—vital skills for any singer,” Richard Cox said. “At SFCM, we are committed to adding multi-genre opportunities to our dynamic voice curriculum that diversifies the types of music our singers get to explore, this kind of concert experience only strengthens our commitment cross-training the emerging 21st-century vocal artist.”

The event will be emceed by Techapella Executive Director and member of Googapella, Lindsay Alford and singer, arranger, composer, and director Deke Sharon, also known as  "the father of contemporary a cappella.”

Techapella will be Sunday, October 19 2025 at 3:00 PM at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Guests are asked to get tickets early as this event will likely reach capacity.
