Biography
Emma Markowitz is a recording engineer, live sound professional, and educator whose work encompasses classical, jazz, choral, and contemporary music. They work as the Recording Studio Manager at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Media Asset Manager at the San Francisco Symphony. In 2026, Emma also served as lead sound engineer for the Cabrillo Festival of Music.
In addition to live sound and recording, Emma frequently works in post-production, mixing, and mastering, helping clients throughout the recording process. Their work has provided opportunities to collaborate with distinguished artists and composers including Claire Chase, Riley Nicholson, Stephen Tramontozzi, David Garner, and David Tanenbaum.
As an educator, Emma teaches Introduction to Recording for Performers and has also worked with students through the SFCM Pre-College program. Their teaching emphasizes critical listening, technical fluency, and the collaborative nature of recording, helping students develop practical skills while demystifying the technology behind the recording process."
