Getting Around the City

Transportation

San Francisco is a bustling city, and that means you’ll need to know how to get around town on public transportation. Several options are available to bring you to your destination, whether it be the Conservatory, the park, or that cafe everyone has been talking about.

BART
Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is the San Francisco Bay Area’s subway system. It’s pretty simple: it runs one line north through San Francisco and then over to the East Bay, breaking off into separate lines in Oakland and Berkeley. The closest BART station to SFCM is Civic Center / UN Plaza. BART trains run to many popular areas in the Bay Area with exciting nightlife and restaurants.

BART

SFMTA / Muni
The San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni) is operated by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). The Muni system incorporates several different modes of transportation, including buses, trolleys, light rail, and cable cars. Many San Francisco residents use Muni for daily commuting. A number of buses and light rail cars stop at the corner of Van Ness Avenue and Market Street, where SFCM is located. The system serves just about every area of San Francisco.

All collegiate students are enrolled in the MUNI Class Pass system, which allows unrestricted access to any MUNI surface bus or underground train in San Francisco during the academic year. For information about public transit (Muni) in San Francisco, visit the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency website or call 311.
