Requirements: At least 6 months experience with acoustic guitar with a basic guitar chord vocabulary and ability to read chord diagrams.

Text, materials, and equipment

  • Acoustic Guitar with a tuner or tuner app
  • Guitar School Method Book 1 by Jerry Snyder (pub. Alfred),
  • Music manuscript notebook (standard staff paper with chord frames and TAB preferred)
  • Solid internet connection and computer, tablet, or other device
  • Microphone, camera, and speakers, that will allow the ability to be visible in class while viewing and playing music. Note: Supplemental materials as pdfs will be sent via email.
  • A good quality external microphone and headphones will improve the experience though is not required.

Take your guitar skills to the next level in this fun and intensive guitar class. Explore a wide variety of musical styles including pop, rock, jazz, country, latin, classical, flamenco, folk, and your favorite artists through listening and direct application on the guitar. With guided practice students will develop a solid fingerstyle technique, expand chord vocabulary, learn to better read guitar music, deepen the understanding of TAB & chord symbols, as well as develop the ability to accompany oneself and others while learning lots of songs, strum patterns, and enjoyable pieces.

A leading Bay Area guitarist and sixteen-year veteran of the groundbreaking San Francisco Guitar Quartet, Mark Simons’ natural musicality and impressive technique have long been critically acclaimed.
