San Francisco Conservatory of Music Appoints DeanSAN FRANCISCO, CA April 17, 2003 San Francisco Conservatory
of Music announces the appointment of Mary Ellen Poole as Dean of the Conservatory.
Ms. Poole brings over two decades of experience in performance, scholarship,
teaching, and management to the role. She holds a Ph.D. in musicology from
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Most recently, Dr. Poole
was Director of the School of Music at Millikin University (Decatur, Illinois),
where she played a key strategic and leadership role in curricular development,
major facilities renovations and fund raising.
"The Conservatory is embarking on the most significant and exciting
expansion in its history and I’m thrilled to be part of it. I look forward
to working with students, faculty and staff to move the Conservatory into
a new era, continuing to grow this
world-class institution while relocating it to the cultural heart of San
Francisco" says Dr. Poole.
Colin Murdoch, President of the Conservatory, comments, "We are delighted

music education will be invaluable as we move towards achieving our goal
of providing our students and our City the very best possible in music
education and performance."
Founded in 1917, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music offers music
programs to graduate and undergraduate students, preparatory and adult
extension classes and community enrichment programs. The Conservatory presents
over 360 public performances a year, reflecting the world-class talent
of students, faculty, alumni and visiting artists. The Conservatory plans
to relocate to the expanded and refurbished Oak Street facilities in 2006,
providing students, faculty and the Bay Area community with access to premiere
musical resources in the heart of downtown.
