Adult Extension Division

Overview

“My lessons in the adult extension division are a wonderful balance to my more mundane obligations. The quality of instruction is superb and I deeply value my teacher's patience and insight.” -- Adult Extension Student, Claire Kahn Tuttle

The Conservatory's Adult Extension Division offers varied and stimulating programs for adults. Whether you're a professional musician in need of specialized instruction or an opera lover seeking greater understanding of the art form, Adult Extension programs provide superior music enrichment and education.

Some of the Bay Area's most innovative musicians and scholars teach our general interest classes. These courses do not require any previous musical experience or knowledge, and vary from semester to semester. If you are looking for specific music instruction, we offer applied music courses each semester at the beginning and intermediate levels.

Our outstanding private lesson faculty provides intense and personalized instruction on all orchestral instruments, piano, organ, harpsichord, harp, guitar, voice and composition. While taking private lessons at the Conservatory you will have the opportunity to perform in Agnes Albert Hall and the larger, 333-seat Hellman Hall. Selected private lesson students can also participate in master classes with world-class visiting musicians and with the Conservatory's collegiate faculty.

Adult Extension students have participated in the Gina Bachaur and Van Cliburn International Competitions for Outstanding Amateurs, and have performed as concerto soloists with local orchestras.
