Orientation and Information for New Students
Congratulations on your acceptance to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music! As a new student, please carefully review these webpages and files as they contain information information that you will need to take.
New students should first review the Information for New Students website and ensure that all materials are submitted by the deadlines listed.
Orientation Week Schedule and Events
Orientation Week is required for all incoming undergraduate and graduate students. The Orientation schedules below contains programs designed to transition students to the Conservatory community. Orientation Week contains a number of required placement examinations and auditions. New students will receive advance information by email; please review the information carefully.
The Orientation schedules will be updated often between now and the start of Orientation. Printed versions will be provided on the first day of Orientation.
Undergraduate Orientation Schedule Fall 2015 (coming soon)
Most students will need to audition for ensembles. Ensemble auditions will take place during the orientation period. Both Instrument and Voice majors will audition for the ensemble they wish to participate in. For more information, please visit the ensembles page.
On occasion, there will openings in ensembles for the spring semester. Students should contact the ensemble director for more information.
To assess new students levels in certain areas, new students will be required to take an assortment of placement exams depending on the instrument.Optional exams are also offered for advanced placement. For information specific to your degree and major please visit either the Undergraduate or Graduate placement exam pages.
School Email Address and the SFCM Portal
Over the summer you will receive an email from Brann Mitchell, the SFCM Network Administrator, with important information about your school email address. The official method of communication for the Conservatory is through your SFCM email account. Once you have that information, you will be able to access the SFCM Portal at http://my.sfcm.edu. If you are having any issues with your account, please contact Brann Mitchell at email@example.com.
