Robert Ward

Robert Ward has been associate principal horn of the San Francisco Symphony since 1980. A graduate of the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in 1977, he has also been a member of the Atlantic Symphony (now known as Symphony Nova Scotia) of Halifax, Canada, and the Denver Symphony (now known as the Colorado Symphony). He attended the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood in 1977 and 1978 and has also participated in the Colorado Music Festival, the Grand Teton Music Festival and the Peninsula Music Festival. He has soloed with the San Francisco Symphony on four occasions, and he also presented the world premiere of Avram David's Sonata for Solo Horn at Tanglewood in 1978. He is actively involved in the operations of the San Francisco Symphony, having helped in the negotiations of several master agreements, and also assists in coordinating tours and long-range planning. He has taught at San Francisco State University, Dalhousie University and Acadia University. Mr. Ward is an active chamber music performer and is a founding member of the Bay Brass.
