Music Director, Conservatory Orchestra
Andrew Mogrelia is former conductor-in-residence at the Birmingham Conservatoire, United Kingdom (1992–2002) and former music director of the San Francisco Ballet (2003–2005). He has conducted leading European orchestras including the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, BBC Scottish Symphony, Residentie Orchestra, Dutch Radio Symphony, Slovak Radio Symphony and Slovak Philharmonic. He has worked with ballet companies in England, Holland, Scandinavia, Australia and the United States, including performances at the Metropolitan Opera House. His discography includes works by Handel, Kreutzer, Vieuxtemps, Suk, Novak and Bernstein, plus ballets by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Delibes and Adam, for Naxos and Marco Polo. His disc of Bernstein works with the Nashville Symphony garnered great critical acclaim. Mogrelia recently conducted the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and made a Naxos recording with the Malmo Symphony Orchestra (Sweden). He was appointed principal guest conductor of The Queensland Ballet in 2009, conducting a major Tchaikovsky production every December. He recently debuted with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, which he will conduct twice more in 2011–2012.
