Bruce Lamott
Music History and Literature
Bruce Lamott is director of the Philharmonia Chorale, the professional chorus of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, and was formerly choral director of the Carmel Bach Festival. A graduate of Lewis and Clark College, Lamott received an M.A. and Ph.D. in musicology from Stanford University, with research in the keyboard improvisation practices of the seventeenth century. He has had a distinguished career in conducting vocal and instrumental works of the baroque period and has performed as harpsichordist with the San Francisco Opera, Sacramento Symphony and Carmel Bach Festival. Lamott is an instructor in music and Western civilization at San Francisco University High School and teaches continuo realization for the apprentice coaches in the San Francisco Opera’s Merola Opera Program.
