Jacques Desjardins

assistant conductor of new music ensemble; musicianship and theory

Born in Montréal, Jacques Desjardins has completed his studies in composition at McGill University and at The University of Michigan. A frequent grant recipient from the Canada Council, he has also won two First Prizes at the SOCAN competition, and has represented Canada at the first International Forum of New Music of the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne. Mr. Desjardins has received commissions from the Sherbrooke Symphony Orchestra, the Ensemble contemporain de Montréal, the Arthur-LeBlanc Quartet, and the Musica Nova Ensemble. His music has been performed by internationally acclaimed ensembles such as The Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Ijsbreker Ensemble in Amsterdam. From 1993 to 2002, Mr. Desjardins taught music theory and composition at l'École de Musique de l'Université de Sherbrooke, where he also conducted the choir and the new music ensemble.
