Description:
John Adams has been called the most frequently performed, living orchestral composer. A New England native, John Adams moved to San Francisco in 1971 and became active in West Coast experimental music. He was on faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music from 1972-1983, founding and directing the new music ensemble and serving as the chair of the composition department during that time. Concerts during the residency will recap several pieces of Adams’ oeuvre from this early period.
